The area of Antico Frignano and Reggio Emilia Apennines includes the whole Apennine area of the provinces of Modena and Reggio Emilia. It covers an area over 2,100 sq km, 1,200 of which in the Modena province and the remaining 968 in the Reggio province.

Municipalities and parks

Three Park Authorities operate in this area: Sassi di Roccamalatina Park, Alto Appennino Modenese Park and the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, for a total of 394 sq km of protected green areas (18.2% of the territory). This area is home to the highest peaks of the whole Italian Apennine ridge, and is crossed by several valleys (such as the valleys of Dolo, Cimone, Enza and Secchia).
The area covers 18 Modena municipalities and 13 Reggio Emilia municipalities.

Promotion of the cultural and natural heritage

Initiatives for the promotion of the territorial heritage aim at the improvement of the use of local areas, the innovation and qualification of the local production system and the improvement of the organizational capacity of local communities. Promotion initiatives will also include horizontal activities regarding planning, animation, training, promotion, information and communication.
