Path routes for reliving history

The visitor to the Mount Taburno area is struck by a multitude of images that intertwine in a tangle of historical memories and tangible facts.  The first striking impression is naturally given by the geomorphological appearance of the area, a very fertile, inland basin typical of the Apennines, dotted with urban centres in which we can find and observe records and traces of Longobard origin. The Taburno massif resembles with its slopes a beautiful woman lying down, and is therefore also known as "The Sleeping Woman of Sannio".  The historical Via Francigena route, taken by pilgrims journeying from Rome to the Holy Land, used to pass through this area, more precisely through the Caudina Valley.

This area was of particular importance to the pilgrims, as here they were able to find many religious structures and hospices where they could stop on their journey.
After following these ancient tracks and examining historical information on the Via Francigena routes, three different paths have been identified, marked, and connected with each other so as to make it possible for pilgrims to visit and admire all the historical, cultural and natural beauties of the Taburno area.
